Dear Friends,
Welcome to our third edition of the Friends’ newsletter for 2024 and your preview of the Gallery’s Seasonal Program for Spring.

There is much happening both at the Gallery and with the Friends in the next few months and we hope to see you there.

KNOW MY NAME: ARTIST STUDIO BUS TOUR

DEPARTING TUESDAY 20 AUGUST | 8.30 am – 5. 15 pm | $65

A wonderful day is planned where we visit the studios and talk with artists, Helle Jorgensen, Leonie Lane and Robyn Sweaney. This tour supports the National Gallery of Australia’s Know My Name initiative to recognise and highlight women artists and their contribution to Australia’s cultural life. A snack pack is provided and we will stop in Bangalow where you can purchase your lunch in one of the many charming cafes, or have a picnic in the park.

The Gallery’s Spring Program will be launched at the Opening & Awards Announcement on Saturday 7 September. It will include the opening of the Gallery’s biennial awards, the 2024 Wollumbin Art Award (WAA) and the 2024 Wollumbin Youth Art Award (WYAA), and Melissa Spratt’s exhibition SENSITISED & SENTIMENTAL.

Announced at the opening will be the awards for the winner of each age category in the WYAA, the overall winner of the WAA, the Bundjalung Award for First Nations artists (WAA), and the Emerging Artist Award (WAA). The Wollumbin Youth Art Award is sponsored by the Friends.

The Opening will start at 5pm. Admission is free but bookings are essential:

ANOTHER BENEFIT FOR FRIENDS OF THE GALLERY

Winter Raffle Prize

 

RAFFLE UPDATE

Have you bought your raffle tickets yet?

Raffles are important fundraisers for the Friends, generating monies to support the Gallery through purchasing artworks, funding awards and initiatives such as Art Play, the school holidays activities.

The current raffle prize is a collection of Margaret Olley-themed goodies, valued at $250, including 2 large jigsaws, a memory game, an eco-shopping bag, glasses case and  microfibre cloth, a box of greeting cards and a tea-towel.

Congratulations to the latest raffle winner, Gillian Parker of Tomewin NSW.

Gillian has collected her framed print of the exquisite Meules, milieu du jour [Haystacks, midday], 1890 by Claude Monet.

JAPANESE ART, GARDENS & CULTURE TOUR

Our 15-day tour, led by Kim Woods Rabbidge, an award-winning garden writer, photographer and design consultant, in conjunction with Opulent Journeys has been tailor made for supporters of the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation Ltd. and Friends of Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre Inc.

We start the tour in Tokyo then onto Kawaguchi, Takayama, Kanazawa, Okayama and Kyoto travelling by luxury coaches and Bullet trains. We will experience Japan’s rich cultural heritage through its century’s old temples, breathtaking gardens and stunning art museums, culturally significant districts and memorable food moments. As well there is a little private exploring and relaxing time factored into this exciting itinerary. We will stay in well-appointed hotels and meals are included as per the itinerary. THE FRIENDS’ MOBILE APP

You can now download our new mobile app, managed by Member Jungle, and stay up to date with the Friends’ news

With this app you can also receive notifications about important event, reminders and when something new is added to the website.

MEMBERSHIP & APP GUIDELINES

 

The Friends of the Gallery app is only available to members. The first thing you need to do is download the mobile app onto your device. Select which device you have and click on the icon and download the "Member Jungle" app.

When the app is downloaded onto your phone use the search bar to enter, “Friends of the Gallery”, then enter your name, email address and member login in and create an account. You can then access your membership details easily by opening the app on your phone when required. Via the app you can view and edit your profile, renew your membership, visit our website and keep up to date with our news, launches and newsletters.
